Leçon 4: Business Idioms: expression de la priorité Dans cette leçon nous allons continuer avec l'exposé des expressions idiomatiques utilisées dans le monde de l'entreprise. Lorsque vous discutez avec vos collaborateurs, collègues ou supérieurs, il vous est certainement donné d'exprimer la priorité; surtout quand vous avez une décision à prendre en fonction des moyens de l'entreprise. Voici quelques expressions anglo-saxonnes souvent utilisées pour exprimer la priorité. Above all (else) : Pour dire, avant tout- la priorité des priorités, première préoccupation. Exemple:
- We have several matters to consider. Above all , however, is the question of financing our new product.
- A successfull managing director requires, above all else, a thick skin.
All important : Cette expression insiste beaucoup plus sur l'urgence( le plus important). Elle exprime en quelque sorte une extrême importance (clé, plus déterminant). Elle peut être utilisée comme adjectif ou adverbe. Exemple:
- Speed, surprise and superiority are all important as factor for success in commercial, as well as military, operations
- Above all, we must be as effecient and effective as our product. So, the all important thing to rebember is to think and act quickly and do your job well.
First and foremost : En premier lieu et plus important que tout autre.
- At the meeting we have several matters to consider. First and foremost is to decide on a replacement for the product manager, who sadly died last week.
- At this, our annual dinners, I would like to welcome,first and foremost , our guests from oversea, also all the staff and friends of the company.
The first step : Pour exprimer la première chose à faire dans une série d'actions.
- When making a presentation, the first step is to define exactly what you are going to speak about.
- We hope that the discussion will bear fruit and so the first step towards greater cooperation beetwenn us.
Last but not least : Pour dire "tout aussi important que les autres";"il faut également ajouter"
- We need to think about how much capital we want to raise, for what purpose, last but not least, how we're going to get it.
- Now, coming to the end of my presentation, the last, but certainly not the least, of our options is to move our headquarters to less expensive site, outside the capital, but keeping a small office in the city centre.
